DESCRIPTION

An artifact from a speculative future where the economy has halted. People create things out of existing items, nothing new is manufactured. The artifact is an eco drone made from random household objects. The drone picks up trash in surrounding areas.

2D MATRIX
I used a 2D matrix to create some structure for the world I will be building. Each axis represents a spectrum between two opposite states or conditions. The quadrants then use two conditions to inspire a more detailed realization of this world. The following are some examples:

Nature / data
Control / data
Knowledge / Neighbors
Reality / Data

A PLAGUE SHRINKS THE POPULATION AND SHIFTS FOCUS TO NATURE CONSERVATION

A devastating illness wipes out over half the population on earth. The survivors unite in a few areas to create “fish bowl” cities.

Many global leaders and corporate giants are now gone so these cities decide to even the playing field and distribute wealth and resources among the few left alive after the plague.

In addition to a new societal structure, there is a shift in perspective in regards to nature. The fish bowl societies unite to mend our relationship with our planet and to help restore natural equilibrium. The fish bowls are there to both protect the people from dying out completely and to protect the planet from suffering the damage of human growth all over again.

Only professional conservationists travel outside of the cities. VR eco-tourism becomes the new getaway. Education and attitudes shift to reflect on our collective roles on this planet and our interiority as individuals.

Technologically, they develop a way to engineer vegan food products that contain all the nutrients we need and a new cuisine emerges. Also, new materials are created using entirely organic material, even electronics. But repair and mending become the preferred option so new techniques help people use items for as long as they can before making new ones.

THE ARTIFACT:  ECO SCRAP DRONE

I decided to apply the “scrappiness” of my artifact Into my methodology. Specifically, I only used found, free models available on the web. Some of the object models I collected were a plastic chair, Nintendo Switch, Ignition lock and key, wire hangers, and computer fans.

From there, I looked at references for community submitted DIY drones to see what elements were negotiable and which were the same across the board.

THE FINAL RENDER
